National Sandwich Day
NATIONAL SANDWICH DAY –
November 3
Some of the most common sandwiches include:
Peanut butter & jelly ~ grilled cheese ~ bologna ~ tuna fish ~ hamburger ~ sloppy Joe ~ club ~ sub & the BLT
The sandwich is believed to be the namesake of
John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich in the 1700’s. As the story goes, he enjoyed spending time
at the gambling table playing cards. Not
wanting to take time away from the game, Lord Sandwich would order slices of
meat between two slices of bread. Montagu’s
gambling friends soon began to order “the same as Sandwich”, from this, the
sandwich was born.
Enjoy your favorite sandwich today. Most of my favorites are far from fancy. I love a fried egg and cheese sandwich for breakfast. In the summertime, radish and butter sandwiches. And every once in a while, a fried bologna sandwich with cheese and mustard, hits just the right spot.
According
to the Guinness Book of World Records, the largest-ever sandwich was a 5,440
pound corned-beef sandwich made in 2005 by staffers at Wild Woody’s Chill and
Grill in Roseville, Michigan.
